Quantum dots are a value-added service that require a backlight change and addition of a film to raise the color gamut of a TFT. QDs are tiny semiconductors that emit light when excited by electricity or light and can be tuned to achieve certain colors. By using a blue LED and QDs, we are able to achieve truer colors at a lower power consumption by producing the R and G light from QDs instead of generating a white light and filtering this into the RGB light.
